August 29 — October 12 This portion of the class is about translating three dimensions into two. Every class period will feature a still-life that corresponds with our daily objectives: Contour/Line, Gesture/Form, Graphic/Shape, Modeled/Value October 14 — December 4th The latter half of this class will be devoted to generating complete drawings. All drawings should demonstrate a thoughtful strategy for execution. Knowledge of the elements of art and the principles of design can help you develop these strategies. Browse these vocabulary sites for ideas. Write in pencil, on the back of your drawing, what strategies you tried to employ. See the assignments here. All work is to be done with the specified media, and on large, fine papers specified in the assignment. • Mixed media means pen and ink, ink and sumi brush, white chalk, conte crayon, colored pencil, black pastels... You should test some of them together and choose a combination that suits you. My personal favorie is black ink with a sumi brush and black and white chalks. • Make sure all of your assignments have been spray-fixed before you bring them to critique. |
