Perspective Review

If this is your first time working with perspective, draw from life.

  • Draw an image in one point perspective. (Looking down a hallway)
  • Same with two point perspective. (Corner of a building)

Hint: Do contour drawings with lots of detail--vary the width of your line to show value; When outside, incorporate the surrounding landscape

If you understand the principles, and are familiar with the examples then invent your own images.

  • Draw an image from a worm's eye or a bird's eye view, include non-geometric forms.
  • Draw an experimental image combining most of the examples: One point, two point, three point, diminishing size, ellipses, shadows, and inclines.

Hint: Invent a grayscale of "pen strokes" (3, or 5 values plenty) for your experimental drawing; This image does not have to be representational

Notes: Tape your paper to a large drawing board so that your vanishing point can be off of the page. Use your tape to make your "drawn format." Erase pencil marks.

Supplies: Pencil (lightly) to map out your drawing; Pen (or a small sumi brush and ink); 16" ruler; Drawing board; Masking Tape
